Search engines like Google keep developing their algorithm in an attempt to provide more accurate result. Latent Semantic Analysis is the latest search engine algorithm by Google. It has been a rumor on search engine forums that Google is giving more importance to latent semantic indexing as compared to other aspects.

Latent Semantic Indexing means that a search engine while indexing a particular website, tries to associate certain concepts to classify the theme of that website. For example, Tiger and Woods are associated with golf instead of forest or wild life, similarly Paris and Hilton are associated with a woman. This is a way where certain concepts are looking into rather than mere keywords.
This is no new concept for Google, because they have been using this concept on Google Adsense service to determine suitable ads. What it appears is that Google is now using the same concept to improve the quality of its search results.
A search for on Google with a tilde ~ before the search term would give you an idea about a semantic search term.
For example, a search for phone and a search for ~phone would return different results. If you add a tilde to the search term then it’s like an instruction to do a semantic search.
